ALTERNATIVE FOOD INGREDIENTS

many people say "if you do not eat rice name was not eating", it seems to have been entrenched in Indonesia. in every house of course the staple food is rice. and it is also hereditary become a habit in every family. of course you also thus not: D !!! I was also admitted not afdol taste if eaten without rice, but without any actual rice we could fill. may be the reason because rice is a major source of carbohydrates that have been popular in the community. but if we are more careful, there are many other carbohydrate sources that are sold in the market such as tubers, corn, and wheat shorgum who must have no less carbohydrate content high with rice. The following is a review of food substitute for rice that is around us.
Tubers
 1.Cassava
   
       Shrubs, can reach 7 meters high, with branches rather rare. Taproot with a number of root branches later enlarged into an edible tuber roots. Tuber size average diameter of 2-3 cm and a length of 50-80 cm, depending on clones / cultivars. The inside of the tuber is white or yellowish. Cassava roots can not stand even though the store is placed in the refrigerator. Symptoms of damage marked by dark blue color due to the formation of cyanide which is poison to humans.

         Tuber cassava is the energy source that is rich in carbohydrates but very poor in protein. Good sources of protein actually contained in cassava leaves because it contains the amino acid methionine.
2.Potato

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) plants included into pieces two (dikotil) of the family Solanaceae. This plant is an annual plant and has the ability to reproduce vegetatively through the tubers. Potato cultivation will flourish in colder climates, the high temperature causes the plant can not form bulbs.

A good height for the cultivation of potatoes in the range of 1000-2000 meters above sea level with a temperature of 14-22 degrees Celsius. Good rainfall during the growing period is 1000-1500 mm potato plants. If the rainfall is too high can cause rot in the tubers.

besides potatoes and cassava, there are many other types of potatoes that can be used as a substitute for rice of course, if we make changes staple food then it means we are supporting the government's program Food Diversification program.

Corn
       Seasonal crops (annual) which in cultivating complete a life cycle in 80-150 days. The term "whole corn" describes the average age of maize which range from three to four months.
